Returning the Arctic Charr

Remember back in December 2012 we covered the collection of Padarn Arctic charr eggs and sperm (milt)? The fish were caught at their spawning beds in the Afon y Bala, at the top of the lake and the fertilised eggs taken to the Mawddach hatchery near Dolgellau.

After being incubated in tanks with critically controlled water temperature for around three months and reared for a further seven months, the young fish were ready to go home and were released back into Llyn Padarn in October 2013.
